Probably not a good idea

What could go wrong?  Famous last words...

One of my regulars just announced a four month hiatus from gaming. That's almost three years in dog time. Kind'a makes the idea behind this post, making a background to 1941 scenarios less useful.

Best laid plans...such as they were, shown here for your reading pleasure.

So along with Barabrossa Derailed  resources and a set of old GDW maps in the Europa series scale, it should be easy to give a little bit of flavor to the 1941 set of scenarios.

I could use the bath-tubbed versions of the Order of Battle from the Bathtub Barbarossa supplement.

Of course I have one!

All I need is a map. Say, showing Minsk and environs ...just the sort of place for my Army Gruppe Central troops and panzers to romp around .  Let us say, the border region and the Western Military District is the start  of the Soviet units.

Map of area, originally from Fire in the East

Minsk is in the near middle of the map. The actual border between Germany and Russia, after the 1939 partition, is just off the bottom (west) of the map.  So the Soviets will have two rifle brigades and a tank brigade, two light artillery regiments (76 mm) , an engineer, anti tank, anti aircraft, light howitzer (122 mm) one medium howitzer (152 mm) and some NKVD Border guards.

The Germans will have a portion of a Panzer regiment, a portion of a  gepanzer regiment, a direct support artillery battalion (105mm) an Infantrie regiment with a direct support (105mm). A portion of the divisional assets ( Aufklarung, engineer, general support medium (150 mm)  artillery

Some air support will be available to both sides.  The delayed reaction to invasion handicap will be in effect for the first turn. After all orders are issued, the roll will be made. The weather is good at the start of the first turn.

The scenarios cover the June II turn (beginning of campaign) through the July I and II  turns.

All the German player(s) have to do is capture Minsk, Mogilev, Orsha, Polotsk, and Vitebesk. By the end of the third  day (strategic turn six). All the Soviet  player is to prevent this.

The German units will not receive reinforcements nor replacements. The Soviet player will receive replacements companies from Minsk only, and only reinforcements listed in the July turns as specified in the area being covered.

Don't give up so easily! For maps, announce the scale and I bet someone can find a suitable game map for you. That is, unless the FitE maps works perfectly for you. If local opponents are out, maybe try a PBeM game for your campaign scenarios?

A good basis for a campaign the Eastern front has many options 👍

So - was the idea to use figures to fight scenarios based on these board games, Joe - or were you just planning boardgame scenarios?

Matt thanks for your help with this. Calmer now, much to rewrap.

Keith, the games are long gone, only the maps remain. Oob's for units would be from the booklet. I was attempting to flesh out some sort of backstory for the next several battles to learn the rules. As Matt pointed out, lots of options.
I have to revisit the concept.

Retool, not. Abandon. OK. Originally I had a framework to work new rules into scenarios. PBeM is not something I would have thought of doing. Not enough local players for the local option.

This all sounds very interesting, Joe!

Joe,
Don't abandon hope! Feeling kinda guilty as I may be responsible for planting the Barbarossa 25 seed......
If you don't have local players, find some email buddies to act as campaign players and play out the games to their plans.....

Neil,
don't blame yourself, the Babarossa 25 booklet has a long and varied life at my house/local players. Several people have mentioned PbEM opponents...had not thought about that but....will see what all goes on locally first. Even when retired I find time is the premium resource.
