First outing with Rebels & Patriots

We tried a walk through of the rules this last Friday. Typically we put down some mis-matched periods with the forces drawn from Greg's and my Basque's and my FPW French.

Most of the Basque force.

Extreme left side of table, French line and a light unit attempt to cover.

Should have used the building to get cover.

Another French combined advance...Lights to the front of evacuated

Right flank is in order. Chassuers d'Afrique hold the flank, covering a line and a skirmish unit.

What did we notice was Musketry at range (anything but close range  made it difficult to register meaningful losses.) Greg pulled one unit into close order which increased firepower a the expense of the unit's vulnerability. I proved that small units of skirmish troops will have a deuce of a time inflicting any damage.                                                                                          The game presented us with tactical, and was inspired by a problem of how to control time and casualties in an assault.       What actually happened?  Greg out shot the French and pulled off a nice cavalry charge against the Chassuers d'Afrique,  which  gave him the win,

Great figures with a favorite set of rules. I also like The Men Who Would Be Kings; mainly for the use of die per figure instead of the usual 12 or 6 based on unit strength during shooting and combat.

Some nice-looking figures in there Joe - hope you persevere and we get to see some more R&P action

The step down feature is taking some getting used to. We will mule ahead for several games and then decide to continue or experiment with another set. I will rifle through your old posts for inspiration.

Keith, yes to more, both figure wise and with the rules. The rules are easier than Chosen Men, and at a glance more twistable for unit ability.. Greg and I are considering buying some Isabellino troops to get period opponents for the Carlists. As long as I can mix FPW French and Carlist without creating mayhem of biblical proportions, there will be more AAR'S coming.

Nice looking battle, we are very fond of the rules……but give the attacker some extra points or they will struggle

Matt, thanks, it seemed as you said, the first impression is the attacker needs extra to prevail. Equal force games often have defenders at advantage.
