Grodno, a short visit and some pregame terrain set up

Three hours after the border was crossed, the 5th I.R. commander and staff examined the  maps and located targets on the ground.

Reports that Bialyostock had already fallen lent urgency to the movement of the units under command.  The race to opening gaps on the enemy defenses was important, the armored columns needed to plunge deep into the Western Military District.  All the way to Smolensk!

 Strategic map

Tactical map with terrain from clear hex table.

Grodno area on the map. The Built up areas are surrounded by light woods. Non road movement is restricted for vehicles. The hexes making up the special game terrain-include 3221,3220, 3321,3322.

I have sent the situation and map to the player for the regiment tasked with taking the town. Also to the commander    of the adjacent command. As I get/answer  any questions on the plan, I will report to you what I can without tipping plans.

Yes, I will make the map more legible in the next few days.  Be glad  you are not one of my long suffering players.

Other locales initially garrisoned, but now in the path of the German juggernaught.

Also known as Brest-Litovsk, notice the local area hosting fortifications. Due to the fortifications, I may tackle  this location's battle solo.

Farther back in country but between Minsk and the border area. The 4th Regiment is marching to the town after its successful attack on Bialystok. You can see the extent of the road network.

Good to hear! It took longer than I expected but the table is going to be what I wanted.

Scenario booklets I think.

Might be worth more effort explaining the process?
This looks to be a very large scale project - plenty of action to be had. I gather Brest-Litovsk took a deal of time and effort to be reduced - for which Joe Stalin offered scant gratitude for the self-sacrifice of the garrison's survivors.
I find the semi-legible sketch map interesting, if only because of the results were a local commander to receive such a document attached to his orders/ instructions. That would be no implausible a happening given an overall commander in a hurry and pressed by other events and undertakings.
Cheers,
Ion

Plus I have no professional cartography experience. I am finding out how much detail is out there for the project. Glad you are able to react to what you are seeing in this phase.
