Recon, AlphaStrike style

Greg and I had a attack of sanity and thought through the scenario for the 14th. We set the points at 350, to 400; both of us took a 'mech' and vehicle force.

We found ourselves the only available players this week, prepping time for the scenario had been scarce due to several changes to who and how many players would be there.  We played as sorts of mercenary companies without picking an exact system nor date....the background is rich with 30 years of player, battle report expansion forces.  Maybe later, but for now we want to concentrate on the mechanics of Alph Strike.

We both wanted to explore the uses of artillery, especially indirect fire.

Pregame rolling  gave me to be the "recon'er" whilst having Greg get to pick where the juicy information was to be found.  'Easy-peasy,' I just needed to find the right 6 buildings out of the 16 to 18, then move up to within a short distance to them and roll an simulated attack (scan) on the building to identify and collect said data.

Well I know I said easy-p.. but once again Greg had some excellent dice playing out with such things as 12 on 2D6 for an artillery mission, which did mar my mech's day.

On a later turn, one of my Short Range Missile launcher units got lucky in that six hits from two launchers gutted a light hover tank, blowing off the armor and ending the support structure. Sadly, too little too late and by turn 4? I was in retrograde at ever increasing speed. Only got a read on 2 of the 6 hidden locations.  Good job Greg, should make your next mission more fun.

Me? scouring the rules and my vehicles for a better mix.

Great looking game, yet to introduce vehicles in my own games

Sounds like you had a pretty tough mission to fulfill Joe, good luck finding a more advantageous force!

Or more compliant dice?

Challenging, definitely. Can go either way.

They can become a useful piece of a force.

You can't beat enemy dice, if they're throwing well, its throwing the towel in time.
