Saga : start, training wheels and

Starting with a new system, something locally we do several times as year, we have settled on making the first game half a walk through and partly an expanded communal rules look up.

The biggest beneficiary of the approach are rules that use atypical methods to approach the subject period.  Saga did appear to be identified as a candidate for the approach. The battle board concept with the saga dice was something approached with caution.

We each set a " four point " force on the table. It was at this point we saw that the deployment area and play portion of the table was almost double that of the rules. First adjustment,  saving a lot of maneuver that had no benefit.

Greg's column was composed of two Hearthguard units,; two levy units of 12 and a warrior unit.  His chieftain was near the warriors with the smallehearthguard unit in to

Beginning deployment. Left and center behind Saracen side

My force had a hearthguard unit of four mounted Ghulams and three warrior units each of six . All the warriors and the hearthguard have  composite bows.  Unfortunately my concept of depth put my leader behind several units in the first few turn

My chieftain is on the round base, next to the ghulam hearthguard

Greg had a warrior unit and the bigger hearthguard unit on his right flank,  his war chief and small hearthguard unit in the center.. Levy held back on the left flank.

We played to a draw,  decided on the next game soon.

A communal effort is a great way to learn new rules

Nice, I always enjoyed Saga as a game, but it can leave your head hurting with its complexity and decision making 😬

The battle board seems to be the first hurdle, then balancing the activation process. I think we ate comfortable withthe rules drv

Never played it but it does seem to be quite popular at the moment - although Matts description does not fill me with desire to give it a try!

Sounds like a good opening gambit with these Joe. The table looked great, with lots of interesting details.

Sort of a second coming, I think I missed first release from 2000's? It does rely on some intricate mechanics to provide the look and feel of a faction.

Iain., the board is primarily Greg and the store's stock and certainly is attractive.

Ray, we're going to try more with the rules and compare to Pillage. The tables just keeps getting. Better looking
