Cruel Seas take over Fridays for February

Well, almost. It does make it the game played on the first and second Fridays, we'll see if we can stay the course.  Even at that, there will be air searches involved from Flat Top as I reconcile the map, OOB and operational capabilities for the East Salomon to  Palau theater.

Good news, the counters sorted , ready for scenario.  Now to sort out who plays Allies, who Japan.

What was exciting this week was the delivery of the USN PT Boat set from Noble Knight games. Less than a week between order online to delivery to door. Quite pleased with the speed and care shipping. Will use the ships, they won't be pretty,  or even completed, but there's something about having the correct gear, eh?

Box art

Three Higgins, 3 Elco boats. To be completed.

Vospers in the partially painted mode.

This looks like an interesting idea.

I do like the look of these " little boats" from Warlord...looking forward to seeing your Cruel Seas games, Joe. Did the USN use Vospers?

Matt, Iain, thank you. The little boats are a treat.

Keith,
from the little I read, in '40 or early '41 the Navy purchased two Vospers, brought them back as examples of what was wanted and then asked US companies to submit designs and prototypes. The Elco and Higgins boats ( different outfits, boats took on company names) were the eventual choices, the Elco boats being slightly longer, at 80 foot vs. 77 foot Higgins. PT boats ended up in the Med (43)as well as in the English Channel (44). All the USN boats of this class were made in the US. In the game details, the US boats are slightly bigger, faster and more heavily armed than the Vospers. Oh, and radar equipped from the get go.

Jonathan, it is a process. The Cruel Seas game is one I was reluctant to start but now that I am "invested" I think will see several games this year. The interface with Flat Top will be less than I first pictured, I will cover that in another post.
