Wing over Krasnograd
Background:
Mig 3's took to the air, one at a time, until all six were ranked in the sky. The mission was simple, to run a Flak suppression mission on the Walkűre front..
The squadron had been recently posted to the front avaition forces and was eager to prove itself. The squadron leader, a veteran pilot (quality 4) had two pilots of some experience (quality 3) and three rookie pilots ( quality 2 ). The first mission was simple but brutal, it was a necessary task to attempt before bombers could be set against the two bridges in the area.
Thus is the first report of the Red Airforce of the Krasnograd annals. At present the forces consist of a squadron each of Yak 1 fighters, the Mig 3's, and a squadron of Pe --2 in the air. The appellation Red Airforce is indicative of the color scheme that most squadrons have painted on the warbirds, where red is used.
( There is a possible lend lease addition to the small air regiment, one of P-39's. But that is another tale. )
Mission Intelligence briefing:
The area featured forests and cultivated areas, held together by a road net that contains three bridges substantial enough to carry the weight of armored vehicles. These were each protected by light Flak batteries. The mission was to damage or destroy the anti air assets to allow the bombing of the bridges later.
The bridges were protected by a 20mm gun section (light flak position in the rules) section each. Each bridge was capable of bearing vehicular traffic up to the heaviest armor , albeit in one way traffic only.
The models for the aircraft are 1/200th scale, ground units are 1/72nd or 1/100th scale.
Next report contains the operations map aka table set up and bridge, flak batteries locations.
