Back to Galactic Knights, wow the last time played was not so long ago. Ambitious for an afternoon game, 1500 points of Carnivores slam into Terran space and about as much of the Terran Fleet. We put the local asteroid field up as the only terrain. We had discovered that the rules were very fresh in our minds compared to other times as the 2025 schedule had several opportunities to play. The advantage of several other types of ships and the variety of other projects over time means we can make new mistakes...
I had settled on a game with three Ranger class cruisers and a Battlecruiser. All the Terran Navy were sporting their best Star Wars grey wash whilst the Carnivores reported in a brownish motif.
We set up in lines for the enemy units had been identified by sensors and the Carnivores had crossed the line of demarcation some time ago. The pride of the clan Growlers, the ships included a Battle-cruiser, a Destroyer leader and two Cruisers. Roger had some fighters.
The Terran Navy consisted of three cruisers, And a battle cruiser Shiny Penny as the flag ship. I had considered the BC being replaced by Star bombers, would make for a faster game.
Ultimately I want to play a cruiser game and this will help me decide on squadron make up in this sector. Roger had no strictures on his choices.
My big mistakes were leaving the fighter flights from the battle cruiser out of the game to balance to the point cost.
Well Roger's force had fighters soundly overwhelming my Battle-cruisers point blank defenses, ably seconded by anti-radar missiles from the cruisers. By the end of the second turn, only the Carnivore Destroyer was in flames and drifting, but the Terran BC Shiny Penny was holed in several places, truly no good for the next round. Flying too close the the Carnivore battle line, the invaders gleefully concentrated fire on the squadron leader. A few Carnivore pilots were picked up as well as a very few crewman from the Battle Cruiser.
Since it will probably just be the two of us next week, we will trot out some more of the Galactic Knight ships. Might just bring those Star Bombers.
