And they're off! AD1666 first of several scenarios

Locally we are trying something different in our game planning. We  (the Friday group) are going to pick a rule set and  play each meeting day in a month with that set of rules. Th quality of play should increase, with our actual experience with the rules increasing as the month goes on.

For September it was AD1666, specifically the recent expansion campaign.  We are tied with one win for each 'team'  and the third game should allow one team to pull ahead.

The set up is as follows:

This is a little  game mechanics oriented, suffice it to say both teams will have their work cut out for them. Heroes are usually better fighters, commoners are 'cheaper' to field.

As you can see, it is likely to be a bloody game. All the points earned are for killing the opponents' figures.

The Blue team efforts are spread between Roger (Order of the Broken Cross) and Greg (King's Musketeers) and usually some from each  faction will appear.

The 'three nobles' that will be added  as part of he blue team will be stood in for by the Cardinal's Guard.

In the primed state. I may keep the jerkins leather.

I hope to paint them roughly in this scheme.

1000+ images about The Three Musketeers, By Richard Lester on Pinterest ...

From the 1973 "The Three Musketeers" which is the best version of the tale. (Pinterest photo.) That's my story, and I am sticking to it.

As part of Red team, I chose to take some figures from the Defenders of the Crown (Polish) and the (Spanish ) Veterans of the Tercio. 40 points lets me field quite a few models.  I go deep through the Polish roster to pluck Kettering and Baska from obscurity. Ok, that is two of the obligatory heroes. The third mandatory hero will be the Capitan from the Tercio. As I feel the need for a human wall to slow down  Porthos, I select Catalina with her halberd!

That is 10 points from the Polish faction, so far 12 from the Spanish.  add in 3 Hidalgo's at 3 each, Add in three dragoons from the Polish faction and the roster is set .

Your idea for group rules’ exercising is a good one.

Jonathan, thank you for the vote of confidence. We really have added so many rules we needed to get better at many for the game function. Did you care for the extra details on set up? I do wish to make the reports entertaining and a useful look at
Play.

It will be interesting to follow the same ruleset/campaign for several games in a row, Joe - look forward to seeing how it goes.

Understanding as nd retention of a rule set will definitely increase with more plays. One of those less is more deals. 😀

Keith, kind of taking inspiration from your solo games. I would agree, same rules and use of a campaign to link scenarios seems to promise better games overall.
Ray, we hope to keep it interesting to follow...maybe even suggest a game if someone is looking for a new period or rule set.
Stew, hope it works out that well for us. Certainly there is a charm to knowing what you are doing!
