Rabbit holes and new cars

I would not have believed how many posts on YouTube contain BattleTech Alpha strike.  After an initial game last meeting, I innocently looked for some Alpha Strike based videos, and now am swamped.  Getting the rules should be the next step. I did splurge on a box of armor and helicopters to start off.

After a small 3 way game learning the mechanics I had a scout/hunter pack purchased.  Greg had finished a few mechs and was able to make a game for the afternoon.

Action is going to be here.

We played a game of 200 points, done in under 90 minutes.  I had 4 scout vehicles,  4 tanks.  Greg used 4 mechs. We loaded up on terrain representing buildings of various types and sizes. This allowed Greg some cover as he moved up to attack The pylos had a CF of 3

We did some firing, but Greg did get in a death from above attack in revenge

In between hot weather, new rules and painting Napoleonics some quality time with my wife had gone into car shopping.  The end result was a new car in our driveway on Friday.

Ooops, here it is Sunday mornin' and the new car is deployed in our  drive, ready to go to Tabletop Games. Photo next time.

On the way to the parade field is a battalion of Westphalian Landwehr, one of three in the 1815 First Bigade,  First  Corps of the Army of the Lower Rhine. Photos to follow after basing.

The Sublime Porte that is my think tank had resisted BattleTech as too much detail for me.  The Alpha strike version is streamlined and is inclusive of tanks, artillery,  flying machines and more.  Giant robots are still in charge,  no doubt!  So crumbles 40 plus years of saying no.

People change.  Rules can as well.

As always, Joe, nice bit of variety ... looking forward to seeing the Napoleonics in due course.

Hear here. I resisted old-school Battletech my entire gaming life for much the same reason! Strangely, I love Star Fleet Battles with is slow, excessively detailed and just arcane. I got into BT: Alpha Strike a couple of years ago via a convention game and have really been enjoying it. In fact I have another four 'mechs in the painting queue right now.

I agree with you on Alpha Strike being enjoyable. You mentioned Starfleet Battles....that was an '80's to 90's addiction for one of my regular players and I---sadly when the turn sequence listing sheet filled up a page we decided to go on to other things.
Anyway, off to buy primer for the 13 mechs that were in the starter set.

Iain, words to live by! The Landwehr will be forth shortly.

Keith, luckily for me, I couldn't source the Moloch game after reading your post; now the urge is gone. (what were they thinking?)
I do confess to having a lot of interests. WW2, and Napoleonics are the mainstays--but who can resist a well crafted Pulp scenario?
I will put a bit more effort into the Barbarossa 25 scenario. That should be pretty popular based on the reactions from the comments.

I gave up on classic Battletech some years back, but looking at the free Alpha Strike quick start rules got me, and then my gaming group, into AS.

Nice looking table. Given how well Alpha Strike seems to handle large numbers of units, I think it would be ideal for campaigns. Now if only I could find my old figures from the early 80's.

The local store has over 20 mats, 12 in use most days. Big step up from sheets and books.

Neil, totally agree. Avoided the original for 40 years, Alpha Strike has such potential.

I am late to the party, most of the local guys had some stuff for a couple of months.
