A little retrospective --Last full month of summer

How did I get here? August has started, projects are getting reshuffled, planning ahead for the return to cooler weather.

Yorktown Defense:  All of the planes are ready to go as is the  model of the Yorktown .  I need to make a few more anti-aircraft 'exploding puffs'  and  affix decals the planes for the Combat Air Patrol.  New date 31 August...4 weeks from today!  Blood Red Skies over the Pacific.

Yes, both W.IP. photos from before

Dry Run from May

Related, on hold -Regia Aeronautica ; a box each of 1/200th scale fighters and two engined bombers to be prepped and painted.  Cactus Air Force and Midway/Coral Sea/Leyte Gulf campaigns put on hold.

Battletech Alpha Strike:  I have to admit, this has come out of nowhere and consumed most of the gaming time these last four weeks. I expect painting to be split between  giant robot looking things , along with nominally 1/300th scale armor.  I have four mechs of 18  painted and eight or twelve pieces of scifi armor vehicles to paint.  Honestly, learning the rules so fast is a double edged sword, I have to decide between planning and painting---I am catching up on some local players collections of over 20 years.

 Well, he's getting ready

Babarossa Bathtubbed- the Western Front  versus portions of Army Group Center.  The Soviet has to deny Smolensk to the Germans while holding Leningrad. Good news is I keep finding more 20mm items for the games coming up.  Reading the Glantz books has delivered more detail than I had hoped for having. Working on a German O.O.B. for the several strategic turn campaign.

Imagination Campaign: since all Napoleonic painting serves dual purpose, the reality is forward movement on story and background is stalled.  I have two to six actions from skirmish to division sized getting fleshed out as proper scenarios.  There are Prussian and Russian infantry, artillery and cavalry form both those armies .  The Prussian Landwehr is 2/3's done.  Did I mention the 300 plus Austrians in the hopper?

Skirmish   gaming, pre-gunpowder eras.  Frostgrave, OathMark, Saga, Pillage, Baron's War, Gates of Tower City: looking for figures to flesh out bands, learn new rules sets, paint some arab light cavalry, dark age archers, repurpose Riders of Rohan. Close behind this is the Renaissance and Pike and Shot...I have  armies, just need opponents. And a day to play.

Bolt Action- sigh, so litttle time so many 28mm projects...American, British 8th Army, Vichy French, Afrika Korps.  Well, I can always wait for Tanksgiving! As well as Achtung Panzer, there is plenty to do. Locally they'd like to do a"Bridge too Far" day in 28mm --a tall order.

Galactic Knights, 40K , Silent Death, Western Gunfights are all pretty much one offs for the near future. Pulp and VSF and 'straight' historical colonials probably one in the next twelve months if I am honest.

The Wars of Ozz army will stay at one (Harvest) for the time being. Maybe next year is a Quadling or Winkie  Crusade?

Chocolate Box Wars: Dammit,  I will do these solo once a month just because I like the way they read.  I can put a Prussian, French and Austrian force together and have British/Hinterland troops for an ahistorical force.

And I must clean up my basement to get a table ready for some of these  activities. I haven't forgotten Lilliput Blitz !

Well, some will be awhile, others are closer to being than I think. Worth your sticking around, I think it will be interesting.

They are fun, and no pressure on any except what is already for the end of August.

Ray, I am hopelessly romantic as to what I can get done, if only I try hard enough. I do rely on my local game friends for support, at least to play in the games. Your blog is always inspiring as your projects roll out.

Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement. A lot of recent posts are ephemeral in usefulness, I hope to provide some decently meaty scenarios that others can play or adjust to their needs.
