Condolences on your loss

It is sad to note the passing of a steadfast monarch, She no doubt will be missed  by many.

The Queen was always that link between past and present.  May She rest in peace in your hearts.

Sincerely.

Thanks Joe, whilst I am not a strong monarchist it certainly feels like a significant end, not just of a chapter but a whole book, for the vast majority of the UK population things will never quite be the same without the Queen. A tough job for King Charles the 3rd !

I am not a particularly strong monarchist either but I think the constitutional monarchy system the UK, Holland and the Scandanavian countries etc have, is better than any of the alternative systems available.I hope the tabloid press in the UK give the new king the respect they (generally) gave his mother, and leave the rest of the royal family alone as far as possible. The problem has been, since the Seventies, they have treated the monarchy as if they are "personalities", like actors or musicians....which they patently are not.

Personally I only remember one British monarch in my lifetime. The reasons the world looked up to her were the virtues she displayed.

Certainly a bit of a shock to our collective system. Being born just a few months after she came to the throne, I have never known another monarch, the idea of a King is weird. She served us well for sure and I expect the King will do likewise. I agree with other comments that our constitutional monarchy system provides great stability and a counter to excessive political ambitions. Regards.

I am looking forward to the time when we throw off the anachronism of a monarchy that is irrelevant to us and have an Aussie as our head of state. We've had numerous governor's general perform the 'ribbon cutting' role admirably and it is completely detached from executive government (aside from roles of swearing in and the like).
I suspect that I'll be disappointed again as this opportunity will pass by and the entrenched/imposed system will remain.
Regards, James
