Convoys and contemplation

Ran the first convoy based scenario using the Galactic Knights rules.  Even had three transports ready for the game, Seahorse class from the Aquarian fleet book.  Only one medium and four light batteries each, these ships will have a hard time against fighters, much less ships of any size, especially star bombers.

The players had a three ship or 500 point restriction on their squadron.  The Carnivores (Roger) came with two destroyers and a star bomber,  the rogue Terran (Greg) ships included a cruiser and two armored pursuit ships.

Convoy bottom, Terran top right, carnivore top left.

First blood to the Carnivores,  as the Convoy tried to avoid both fleets...the lead transport was obliterated by the plasma torpedoes of the Carnivores star bomber.  The transports had criminally thin armor in the stern.

Carnivores rush convoy, Terran stands off.

Star bomber, center of left, attacks first trader....with plasma torpedoes. Three hit, obliterating the transport.

Noting the lack of subtleties by the Carnivores,  the Terran ships loosed a volley of missiles  at the destroyers from its cruiser and hailed the remaining transports to surrender.  The Terran noted that the toll was only 40 percent on goods carried.

On the remaining transport ships the captains were having none of either fleets approach,  and made use of their infinity drives,  punching into hyperspace.  The lack of profit this run was offset by, well, living...which set well with the crews.

Terran fleet looking at telltale warp signatures... ships are gone!

That left the Terran and Carnivores commanders looking at each other over empty space,  both squadron commanders broke off contact with nothing to show for the encounter.

Convoy based games are tricky,  and Galactic Knights is no exception.  While each faction has a transport/freighter available to purchase,  the Terran and  Avarians ships don't have ship displays in any of the rules published.  The Entomolian, Aquarian and Carnivores fleets are supplied with ship displays which could be used in a pitch.  Probably means I need to invest the time to learn the ship building rules,  which are laid out (and extensive) in the rulebook.

With the sector maps presented,  a trade route could be laid out for scenarios,  Q-ships were mentioned,  other ideas traded.  As always, more later.

Happy Easter to you that celebrate, we are off to finish prep work for tomorrow's family gathering.

Keith, (from Bydad)
I do expect to have some more serious convoy based games with this rules system. It'll take some time, rules-smithing is not a strong suite of mine.

I have the small Mace space station (looks a lot like the death star), the Entomalian Nest (Huge), and the modular space station, which I haven't painted. The one you remember, I think, is half of a Cylon base ship - about a foot across!

I remember a quarter of a table, so huge it must be.
