Swedish Army troops 1813, Army of the North ( Box 1 )

The Swedes in 1813 contributed to the Army of the North. Thee were six brigades of infantry, as well as supporting Cavalry and Artillery.  One brigade, the 5th, was with Walmoden's Corps...detached for duty in northern Germany. The other  five brigades served in two divisions with the main army and appeared at Leipzig.

We will start with the brigades in the main army. Remember, I am storing one brigade per box, I may forget and use either term talking about the figures. I apologize for my idiosyncratic  organization.

Well, the first box of the Swedish is a mix of Guard, Grenadiers, and line battalions.  Quite the gamer's dream mix. I will start with the Svea Life Guard.

I added two gun sections to the box as the division had two batteries ( four sections in my basing scheme.)  In keeping with the theme of mixed units, some are mini-fig from  the 1980's, some are Eagle Figures and some are from the house of  Perry.

When I get everyone done, I will flock the units bases for consistency. I will move the information to a new page on the blog so good folk like yourselves can find all the Swedish stuff in one place...watch this space!

 1st Brigade, LtG Schutzenheim

Eagle Figures

1st, Svea Life Guard Regiment

Obviously Minifigs! Painted in the '80's using Humbrol oil based colors and (some) lined with ink.

2nd,  Andrea Life Guard Regiment

Second verse, same as the first.

Lifeguard Grenadier Battalion (in painting queue) picture coming soon.

Lieb Grenadier Regiment

White collar cuffs and turnbacks. The headgear on this and the previous unit have the rolls on the hat as bags made of  sheepskins stuffed with wool.

Still  needs basing and finish work on the drum. Various craft paints and vallejo for metals.

King's Regiment   To be drafted and presented after painting.

Next up, 2nd Brigade

Handsome collection! I don’t see Swedes often (heck, NEVER) on the Wargaming table.

Thanks. Photos of the units flocked soon, and eventually the other grenadier regiment.

Thank you, Much more to come. You are correct, Swedes are an uncommon sight on the table. Until recently, just the sculpts were limited, the painting references scattered, and the battles pretty obscure. I will make a separate page on the blog to follow up on the progress made.

Must be Swedens time to Shine...I am in the midst of my GNW odyssey and a gaming mate is about to start on a similar project to your own...Napoleonic Swedes!

These look great. I would love a Swedish army in 28mm and like the Eagle figures.

Your project is inspiring me to keep moving on mine. I like the animation you get in a stand. And o course all that blue and yellow....

Both the Eagle and the Perry figures are great. I still affectionately look at my mini-figs with their place on my tabletop. The end result will be a mixed bag of figures, but fun to collect and paint.
Splendid work on these, it's a rarity to see Napoleonic Swedes

Thanks, Paul. An table top oddity but maybe the new figures will boost the popularity. I know I like them.

These look great Joe and you knocked them out so quickly too. Plenty of fun to be had with them in the 1808–1809 Russo-Swedish War (against Czar Barry's Russians, perhaps, not to mention Peter's Danes?), and, of course, 1813.

We can certainly play either in Finland or Norway, both Peter and Barry are both opponents who are a lot of fun to play with on table. 1813 is a wonderful year to play the Swedes, either direct with Bernadote at Leipzig or near Hamburg with Walmoden's Corp. Of course, in our imagination campaign there is the country of Scania, Home of many Things.

Nice to see Swedes. When I played 15mm Russian napoleonics oh about 30 years ago my opponent had a small collection of them. Sadly they never made it on the table as he went to uni.
Might we see these in a game sometime soon?

I have several ideas for a game pending involving the Swedish troops. Over five units to be tested on the table!

Very nice, Joe. I have a lot of affection for the Minifgs Swedes, and of course I have my own substantial Swedish army composed of those figures.
The black lining really kicks the Minifigs up a notch; I think you should finish the job on the rest of the Svea and Andra Lifeguard at least!

Hmmm, perhaps after I remount the flags and finish with the improvements in basing, oh, and painting the new units. You will be pleased with the Vastgotha regiment in a later box.
