Another new book (two actually)

Short trip to Mystic for a stay over Valentine's Day. Nice digs, 'The Mystic Inn' and the attached restaurant with a terrific seafood dinner. I washed my platter down with some hot buttered rum. Nice counterpoint to the 15 degrees F outside.  My wife Pat was glad we got to park close!

Mystic is home to Mystic Seaport, which rebuilds and launches sailing ships using by period researched methods.  Just before Covid struck they had completed years of work on the ex whaler Charles W. Morgan

Also there is the Mystic Aquarium that is home to sea lions, seals and beluga whales. Finally, there is a warren of specialty shops that sits in between the two.

Being a wind chill  in the single digits day, we opted for a quick walk into one of my wife's new favorite stores, the Cloak and Wand. A few Harry Potter trinkets caught her eye. An obligatory purchase for the grand daughters later, I spied a book on random encounters for rpg's; might be useful for 'do it your own' scenarios of Silver Bayonet.

Speaking of said RPG, ordered last from Noble Knight on Wednesday night, well after 10 pm Eastern, delivered Monday before three pm.

Now I really must finish the British band and search for additional unit members.  On to the painting table.

The first book looks particularly interesting Joe.....you will be excited to learn I have purchased a second hand approx thirty two inches square folding card table, so I may actually be able to partake in some solo skirmish games in the not too distant future!

Tony,

Mystic is a great visit. The Seaport Museum is worth a full day, especially if you are interested in the whaling era, sailing ship construction, even just early 19th century industry.

The Aquarium is great, if overrun with school age children in warm weather. The Beluga whales are in a gigantic tank tat spans a half acre at least.

Last but not least, the relocated Mystic Pizza restaurant is across the drawbridge on the west side of town. Tourist trap, but the pizza is good.

Keith,
The rpg book is useful, I like pulp era adventures and at first pass at least half of the events can port right over. Quite a few others would work with a little massaging. I can even see the Silver Bayonet scenarios getting a boost when I make some 'do it yourself' situations.

I like the look of the first book, it should give you plenty of ideas for games.
