Planes. Madness in two scales

Well, it happened after saying to our local group, 'No more new periods.'

I have taken the splash into Blood Red Skies  After some tire kicking both online and at the local store. I am now the proud owner of the base rules and the start of two air groups. I do need to apply a lot of silver paint and some decals.

First up is the P-38 squadron. Three of the fully six "fork tailed devils" that could be seen over Europe as escorts in bombing raids. In the Pacific as long range fighters or over the sands of North Africa.

Also the P-47 squadron.  Six escorts/air superiority fighters and close support craft. Three photo'd here out of the box.

That's in 1/200th scale.

I also invested in two bags of 1/300th scale Battle of Britain aircraft models. These will bolster my Blitzkrieg on Lilliput machinations.  They will supplement the airplanes from the Battle of Britain game...in 1/300th. These are from the game.

  Battle of Britain-Hurricanes

 Spitfires

 ME109's and 110's

 Do 17s, Ju88s and He111s.

I am not sure what rules to use for these. Besides in the BoB game, that is. More fun ahead.

Very interesting. What is your opinion of the BRS rules so far?

With just a quick read through and then an unfinished first game... the only way to get me to really (really) read the rules?

I like them so far. I like the scenario set up, feel I can ignore the tournament rules, the basics are simple and cheerful enough. I have seen several sets of air war in the 50 years of play and these will probably be the ones I use long term.
I am using the book 'Airstrike' which has an expanded basic rules and scenario list. There is another publication I am waiting for, the supplement 'Wing Commander' which promises more chrome and hopefully a campaign system. 'Stay tuned?' is all I can offer now.
