The Peasants are Revolting, part 2

Here Roger, proxy for Orbajosa's ruler prepares for battle.

Probably the last game by the masked bandits of old, we open the second game of S'Gottland's attempt to increase the basque province's bid for home rule.
[We all have our 'shots' (jabs on the other side of the pond ) and
the two week after wait is up before our next Friday meet.]

Based on the campaign booklet background referenced in the title, Greg's force has been marching and attempting to raise militia to augment the basqsue county forces. Roger represents the attempt to nullify these gains. Victory by one aide will adjust the available resource 'national will' points to the nations involved.

Here is the southern end of the battlefield. S'Gottland commander just off field of view.

The defenders shake out.

Cavalry, followed by light infantry, followed by line troops. All  regular units.

S'Gottland forces on the other hand, include a large percentage of raw militia. Note those troops in the red basque style berets. These units are raised by the S'Gottland column moving through map areas with population and scoring on a die roll. Note Greg has entered our field of view. Well played!

The cavalry are barely shown behind the Inn of Good  Hops. Infantry is spread over a large area, in contrast to the Orbajosa troops. ( Note: No cows were hurt during the game, or its photography.)

The hussars to the front, the regulars advance. (Please note the cows, never in danger.)

A good view of most of the units.  Photo by PT Barnum Aerospace

The S'Gottland guerello  lancers charge the hussars. Unbelievably, the hussars give way, leaving the infantry column open to assault.

The Cazadores receive the assault.

In the meanwhile, the basque militia have moved across the back of the inn.

Line troops after cazadore-lancer fight.

The Basque militia shot well but did not care for the effects of the return fire.

At this point, evidently the photo crew had breached the wine kegs at the Inn. Lost to missed opportunity is the glorious charge of the second unit of hussars into the two guerilla units on S'Gottlands left. (Off camera top left)

With losses heavy on both sides and especially S'Gottland only having the raw militia untouched, night found both forces back at camp. Would enough stragglers return from the retreated units? Would the militia stay or melt away in the dark? Will the two sides maneuver on the dawn or try to take the Inn again?  Will the good luck of the cows continue?

Only the after battle dice and unit commanders can answer...and the dice have not yet been rolled.( To be continued ...fer shure....)

Sounds like things are heating up in the contested areas. With that many hungry troops, a few cows may end up on a spit at the camp kitchen. Or will their luck hold?

Those must be the Spanish Maria-Luuisa Hussars, (in)famously nicknamed the "Run Away Marys"!

I think that part of the army views bread as 'hamburger helper' so the pax bovina is on borrowed time.

Yes indeed they were. I seconded in my Swedish 'Morner Hussars' (actually Spanish castings in the M-Fig range) to play the part.

I am playing with comments in the photos from two different editors. So the results are different. Oh, and the ugly squares of paper are to I.D. the terrain type, something we always to forget to announce in the games.

Looks like a bloody action for both sides - wonder what the post game dicing will reveal about the state of the respective forces!?

Almost done with the post-game. It certainly got messy quickly, but when cavalry charge......
"Run Away Marys"? I like it!
