Some more Wars of Ozz cross over

Those of you that go back to oh, the beginning of the year on the blog might recall my project to field a 'Land of Harvest Army' for the table using the Wars of Ozz figures.  Not a blow by blow report, rather an excuse to post photos of the exercise.

So, there they are, coming around the bend.

Standing in for the Quadlings, the Brunswickers. The squares contain unit/commander info.

My friend Roger and I had set to play the rules out a few turns. The 'battle' is set in the imagined Grand Duchy of Brunswik, which is at least a week away from the present unpleasantness. Brunswik is ruled by the Duke, a very dour fellow.  The main North-South road in the duchy is jokingly referred to as the Romantichestrasse...as nobody sees much to touch the tender-hearted in much of the Duchy. The army is all dressed in black uniforms.

Thus it seems the perfect force to stand in for the Quadlings in our first Ozz outing.

The leader of the Quadlings is the witch Glinda. We substituted  the Duke for the combination general/magic user.  Other brigade commanders had attributes roled for choice. The light battalions were to be the Southern province foot; the line the Northern Province, the Lieb, AvantGarde , and the artillery and cavalry represent the Central province.

A rare photo, taken by the camera mounted in the broom of the witch Elise. The mushroom and cornmen columns are heading straight for trouble. The punkin' chukka prepares for firing.

In the upper center the 'Quadling ' cavalry pushes back some lessor pumpkins.
Some Greater Pumpkins prepare their own charge..on the batteries of the Quadlings.

In real life, technology reared its ugly head but surprised me pleasantly.  An update to the 'gallery app'
provided me with an editing tool that could be useful.

Contact, unfiltered.
Contact, pencil filter enabled.
Pencil and wash filter enabled.

I rather like the effects and may revisit the battle with the filters on to tell the story.

For those of you wondering, Cavalry don't like the 'popping attack' and the artillery held, barely, against the Giant Pumpkin Heads.  Thanks mostly to some vicious rolling to hit.
The rules were very interesting calling back to some old time mechanics.  These mixed with  some different takes for initiative/sequence of play.

The next outing will be a little more formal, in the September/October time frame.

Wacky battle but entertaining, for sure. I like your newly discovered photo editing tools.

Everything I have looked at tonight is weird - Michal at Dwarf Crypt described a fantasy game that's got no figures involved at all, just reading a book and then making choices that lead to another plot turn, Scotty had a Blood Bowl Skaven team, Steven at The Eastern Garrison had a man-eating plant called a Demogorgan and now this! Looks like you had fun - but its definitely too far off the left field for me!

Mushrooms and Pumpkins and witches, oh my!

The pencil and wash filter results are quite evocative!

Peter and Tony...it was fun. It (trying out the rules) has been a long time coming.

Keith, on the bright side, you got it over with in one pass. Promise the next post more historical, less hysterical.

Jonathan, definitely not historical, but fun, yes!

The photo edit is a great addition on my phone, which is where the bulk of the photos come from. This is similar to some photos (strangely, featuring the Giant Pumpkin Heads) from early last year.
I will explore the filters more before using them a lot in a post. I am leaning to the pencil and wash version. Time will tell.

Very imaginative stuff. Those photo editing tools look very interesting, making the photos look like an artist's rendition.
Keith, there must be something in the air…
