Done and the flocking Semaphore post; something extra

From the Perry Miniatures lists, the Portuguese Semaphore post.  The large blue critter in the background is not part of the semaphore crew, but he seems determined to photo-bomb them.

Contrast paints on crew, three inch wooden disk as base, terrain blue Styrofoam insulation. coated with black Gesso and  raw sienna paint from Blick Art Supply.

Originally the outcrop was higher but both my local critics thought more room was needed for the crew, so slicing off the top half inch gave me more real estate.  All that remains is some flock/brush.

A cute vignette for the table, especially in our upcoming Chosen Men scenarios.

Does look better cropped.

Different view, cropped.

As advertised, flocked!

Farther back.

     Something extra.

Lovely work on the semaphore Joe. I have that set somewhere and must get around to completing it.

Thanks Lawrence, glad you liked it. Really a pretty kit. Looking forward to your version.

I agree with you both, it's a great little vignette. As the proud owner of a small Napoleonic Portuguese force, I should really invest in this....mind you, I don't have any cavalry yet, so maybe that's a bit more important first?!

Keith, we'll get double duty of the semaphore crew. First as an objective in "Chosen Men," and as table dressing in bigger games.
As for cavalry or semaphore?
Maybe a scenario where the crew is signalling for reinforcements by/for the Portuguese would move them up your buying chain. Only 4 foot figures and the spindly semaphore. Less work than 8 or more horse.

Ave3ry nice vignette, Joe. I wasn't aware of this set; I usually think of the French for Semaphore!

Peter, there are a lot of great sets in the Perry catalog, and some are 'switchable' in nationality or function. How about a bridge train?

It is nice to see this sort of "specialist" unit on a table...really adds value. A bridging train or even just a few supply wagons would offer a lot of new combat opportunities too. Regards.

I have a complete French Pontoon train to paint; the horses are all done as of a year ago, but not the equipment!

Thanks fr the kind words, it was a fun project.

Peter,
You've done the hard part, then! Think of how cool the train would look!
